The most popular among the mentioned areas is Paklenica National Park located about 47 kilometers north of Zadar. Park covers the area of 95 square kilometers and includes two highest peaks of the Velebit Mountain – Vaganski vrh (1752 m a.s.l.) and Sveto brdo (1753 m a.s.l.). Paklenica was proclaimed a national park in 1949 due to its unique natural features, magnificent forests and extraordinary geomorphologic structures. Distinctive canyons carved vertically into the southern slopes of the Velebit Mountain is what attracts climbers from all over the world. Paklenica offers around 500 climbing routes which are up to 350 m long and vary in grades and styles – from the basic routes suitable for beginners to complex multipitches.
